It was a beautiful morning in the Monterey Bay area when Lloyd and David set out for Salinas to meet up with Jerry, who was driving down from the San Francisco Bay area to join us on the first leg of drive to the start of the West Texas Oil Leak in Santa Fe, New Mexico. On this trip, David's navigator will be another bear from his wife Debbie's extensive collection - Teddy. Teddy is quite a senior bear, and will not stand for any nonsense....

After breakfast and coffee we set off south on Hwy 101. Jerry had arranged to have his front tires balanced in San Luis Obispo, so at Paso Robles we split up, with Lloyd and David heading towards Bakersfield. It was a great day for driving with temperatures in the 70s, and open roads. We arrived in Barstow, California around 4:30pm after a drive of around 350 miles. About 90 minutes later, Lloyd got a call from Jerry to say he'd broken down about 10 minutes away, so we rode to the rescue.... By the time we got there Jerry had the problem diagnosed. Back on the NWOL in 2012 Jerry's car suffered a number of electric "black-outs" which were eventually diagnosed as a faulty ignition switch. Well, the gremlin returned, and caused the car to loose all electrical power at the stop lights at the freeway exit. After grabbing a bite to eat, we set to in the parking lot and assembled a hot-wire kit from electrical supplies found in David's capacious trunk...

Tomorrow we set off for Flagstaff, Arizona where we will be meeting up with more "Leakers" on our way to Santa Fe.
Teddy will not stand for it! :-)
